Woman Tells Of

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Oct 29, 2009

Sisters beds for kids in the sun A LOVE of life in the sun runs in Helen Watson’s family. Her sister Angela also moved to the Balearics, after travelling the world on cruise ships, and set up the Geordie Pride in Majorca.

The pub, which is decorated in black and white, gives Toon fans a chance to watch Newcastle United matches while enjoying a cold bottle of Newcastle Brown.

The sisters’ mum Isabella, 78, still lives in Walker, but spends a lot of her time island-hopping between Majorca and Ibiza.

She says her daughters got their adventurous spirits from their father. Isabella’s late husband James was a joiner who travelled a lot with his work.

Pupils re-live march history

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England), Oct 29, 2009

SCHOOLCHILDREN donned flat caps and carried protest banners as they recreated a famous piece of Tyneside history.

Around 30 children from Bede Burn Primary School, in Jarrow, South Tyneside, walked in the footprints of the original Jarrow marchers of more than 70 years ago.

Braving the autumn weather, just like the original crusaders, the Year Two youngsters marched from Jarrow town centre to their school, in Dene Terrace.

The trek brought to an end a seven-week history project during which the children pontoons carried out internet research, explored family trees and made banners as they delved into the story of the protest march.

Class teacher Christine Woods said: “The children imagined what it would be like on the original march. They wrote letters back home, as though they were taking part in the march.”

The Jarrow March saw 200 unemployed men marching to London in October 1936 to demand work for the town.

The CW Network Taps ChaCha to Help Promote Halloween Episode of Hit Drama “The Vampire Diaries”

Market Wire, October, 2009

On October 24th ChaCha, the mobile service
that allows users to call or text questions on mobile phones to ChaCha and
receive answers within minutes for free, will launch a six day campaign to
promote the upcoming special Halloween episode of The CW Network’s highly
successful new series “The Vampire Diaries.” Prior to the show’s airing on
Thursday, October 29 (8:00-9:00p.m. ET/PT) on The CW, ChaCha will build
audience through a text-based campaign aimed at teen and young adult
viewers.

ChaCha developed numerous text scripts playing off the theme “Halloween
Sucks.” In the course of providing answers to medical answering services questions teens texted to
ChaCha, the company will also serve up teasers such as “If vampires R your
thing, then you can’t miss ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Halloween episode TONIGHT
@ 8/7c only on The CW! Find out if Halloween really sucks!” There are more
than two dozen scripts all directing viewers to tune-in to the Halloween
episode.

“ChaCha has a solid track record of driving awareness and building audience
for entertainment programming especially among younger viewers who tend to
be the heaviest texters,” says Scott A. Jones, CEO of ChaCha. “For example,
during a 36-hour period in the first quarter, ChaCha served nearly 150,000
impressions to promote another television network’s health-based reality
show. Of those impressions, over 32,000 users responded to the multiple
levels of mobile ads, resulting in an astounding 21.59% average response
rate. For Paramount Pictures’ ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ we
served close to 1 million text ads in the week leading up to the movie’s
premiere and increased unaided awareness of the blockbuster by an
unprecedented 27 percentage points.”

“The CW has some of the most passionate and tech-savvy fans of any network,
which means we need to fuel their love of our shows on every platform
available,” says Caty Burgess, Director of Media Strategies for The CW.
“Our viewers use their mobile devices to stay in constant touch with their
friends, family and the world, and so for us to stay in touch with them
wherever they may be, we’re utilizing innovative mobile services like
ChaCha to get our messages across in a highly targeted and unique manner.”

In the October 29th Halloween episode of “The Vampire Diaries” on The CW,
Vicki’s (Kayla Ewell) behavior becomes more dangerous, and Stefan (Paul
Wesley) tries to help her. Elena (Nina Dobrev) tries to convince Jeremy
(Steven R. McQueen) to stay away from Vicki. Caroline (Candice Accola)
gives Bonnie (Katerina Graham) a necklace she took from Damon (Ian
Somerhalder) to wear with her Halloween costume, and when Damon tries to
take it back, he is surprised by Bonnie’s abilities. Bonnie discusses the
incident with Grams (guest star Jasmine Guy) and learns more about her
family’s past. Trying to cheer Vicki up, Matt (Zach Roerig) takes her to
the high school’s haunted house, but the evening soon takes a terrifying
turn. Ernest Dickenson directed the episode with teleplay by Kevin
Williamson and Julie Plec and story by Andrew Kreisberg.

With Nokia, Apple Won’t Give an Inch Despite Huge Risks

The news that Nokia was the cure for insomnia suing Apple for patent infringement of its wireless technology was, frankly, surprising. And then when it became clear that Nokia probably only wanted about $200 million total, or 1 to 2 percent royalties, it seemed completely insane, as that is almost petty cash to Apple. But then its easy to [...]

Ethics complaint tests Internet marketing method

Daily Record, The (Baltimore), Sep 21, 2009 by Sylvia Hsieh

Pay-per-click or pay-to-play?

Ethics complaint tests Internet marketing method

Dolan Media Newswires

An ethics complaint looming over hundreds of attorneys nationwide will test the boundaries of lawyer advertising on the Internet.

The complaint, filed with disciplinary authorities in 47 states – - including Maryland –against 550 attorneys, targets not only the owner of Web sites that offer free consultations with attorneys, but all the lawyers who participate in the sites.

The Web sites purport to copy the pay-per-click model used by Google Adwords and other advertising regimes that tie fees to performance. If a potential client contacts an attorney whose name is listed on search engine marketing houston one of the Web sites, the firm pays a fee to the sites’ owner.

The complaint contends there is nothing new about the business model — it’s an old-fashioned fee for referral that violates the rules of professional conduct.

The complainant, Connecticut lawyer Zenas Zelotes, identified 17 Maryland lawyers in his complaint. Most appear to be solos or in small practices. Of those identified, just one — Paul G. Tolzman of LeViness, Tolzman & Hamilton — is in a firm that advertises heavily in other media.

Tolzman declined to comment, saying he had not seen the complaint
